Biotechnology in Practice

The biotechnology in the GMP environment is becoming increasingly important. For newcomers to this field, it is not easy to navigate the processes and terminology. Therefore, PTS, in cooperation with the aprentas technical school, offers a two-day face-to-face seminar in which the basic knowledge of biotechnological production can be learned.

Practice and theory of biotechnology in alternation

In alternating theory and practice blocks, participants learn about the USP (Upstream Process). They create a starter culture, which is then cultivated in the bioreactor to the defined cell concentration. During this process, the user learns about the process parameters and their influence on the entire process.

Example of in-process control in biotechnology processes

To gain a deeper understanding of the in-process control procedure, participants take a sample from the bioreactor and determine the cell concentration in the laboratory. For this, they apply a sample onto a carrier material to examine the cells microscopically. Afterwards, the results and the further course of the upstream process are discussed in detail in small groups.

In this practical seminar, participants learn the basics of biotechnology and conduct a process themselves in the bioreactor.
