Bayer inaugurates Europe's largest research building in Wuppertal
After four years of construction, Bayer Wuppertal has inaugurated its new research building in Aprath. Site Manager Maik Eckelmann, Head of Research and Early Development Philip Larsen, and Wuppertal's Mayor Uwe Schneidewind today ceremoniously cut the opening ribbon.
Bayer is bringing its internal pharmacological research on cardiovascular diseases into its new research building. Additionally, the building offers laboratory space for external cooperation partners. This is intended to promote effective exchange between Bayer's long-standing experience and new innovative external therapy approaches.
"The construction of Europe's largest research building here in Wuppertal is a strong commitment to our location," said Maik Eckelmann, Bayer Site Manager in Wuppertal. "We want to be among the fastest in our industry to bring innovative and high-quality solutions to patients more quickly. Therefore, it is important that we continue to invest in research."
The 36,000 sqm building is 25 to 39 meters high due to its hillside location. A total of nine floors house 250 laboratories and functional rooms.
"This building symbolically represents our comprehensive investments in drug research and development and our efforts to modernize the way we conduct research," said Philip Larsen, Head of Research and Early Development.
