In 2018, the LOUNGES are back in Karlsruhe and present themselves with various highlights and an interesting program to the broad public. Over 8,000 visitors attended the last LOUNGES and were enthusiastic about the diverse opportunities for information and exchange. In February, the exhibiting companies will showcase topics related to cleanroom and pharmaceutical process on an area of over 12,000 m², which has increased by 4,000 m² compared to the previous year.
From Theory to Project
The focus of the lecture sessions is on completed projects and the path to them, starting with planning fundamentals, legal requirements, and the wishes of operators. An efficient project start and the Red Dot Action during planning lay the foundation, as Rino Woyczyk from Drees & Sommer SE will report in his lecture. The success of a project is significantly influenced by the proper setup at the beginning. Good project organization and planning are the guarantees for successful project execution. Failures in the initial phases cannot be compensated for later in the project. This impacts the collaboration of all project participants – even down to contract design.
The customer as investor/client influences the level of detail in these early project phases and is therefore also responsible for achieving the project goals. This presentation will show which factors need to be considered and what can be improved. Because if projects are started incorrectly, it initially leads to delays and, in most cases, cost increases. Avoiding this is therefore the top priority for project managers.
Also exciting is the technology transfer in the pharmaceutical industry, as Ms. Annett Brenner from Chemgineering Business Design GmbH will report.
In the pharmaceutical industry, there are many reasons to relocate an established product from one site to another or to build additional production capacity there. It is often simply referred to as "copying existing production facilities and manufacturing processes." This sounds straightforward and logical at first. But there is much more behind it than just acquiring the production facilities and processes 1:1 again and setting them up at another location.
Darkzone, a very special experience
From 11:00 a.m. to 3:35 p.m., up to 14 guided tours, each lasting about 15 minutes, will take place daily through the Darkzone, with groups of 10 people. The last lecture of the day will be broadcast live outdoors.
The cleanroom, a limited area with a defined concentration of particulate, biological, and chemical contamination, functions in a way that minimizes the ingress, formation, and presence of contamination. In the rest state of a cleanroom, this can be easily achieved with today's cleanroom technology. However, to effectively monitor contamination control during cleanroom operation, the sources and pathways of contamination must be known. Many sources and pathways are simply overlooked in everyday operations, especially micro-particles and microorganisms that are invisible to the naked eye. Visualization helps clarify connections and make abstract topics visible. Therefore, the companies CCI-von Kahlden, dastex Reinraumzubehör, Pfennig Reinigungstechnik, and decontam have created a lively platform with the Darkzone for the theoretical background of particulate contamination in cleanrooms and for interactive visualizations. In the Darkzone, visualization, i.e., the use of the optical channel, is deliberately used to vividly and understandably convey this fundamental but complex topic of contamination control to ensure cleanliness. During a tour of the Darkzone, various stations will show where contamination occurs, how it behaves, and especially how it can be further transported. The tour is complemented by another station outside the lecture room that addresses the topic of "proper dressing." Here, the correct behavior will also be demonstrated visually. The demonstrations in the Darkzone are framed by expert lectures on topics related to contamination control in cleanrooms. The interactive visualizations, combined with technical information, focus viewers on the essentials and increase understanding of microcontaminants that are normally invisible in cleanroom operation. Join us in another world – the Darkzone!
New and forward-looking – the Innovation Lab
Through various presentations, the topic of "Innovation" will be brought closer to both exhibitors and visitors of the LOUNGES. It is planned that visitors to the Innovation Lab will be directly involved in the presentations and actively participate. This will be implemented using the successful formats of Science Café and World Café. The goal is to promote communication and knowledge transfer between companies, exhibitors, and participants, as well as dialogue, interaction, and networking. The concept of innovation will be strengthened for SMEs, and awareness of the current and future importance of innovations will be raised.
Formats that are convincing ...
Science Café – Experts from science and industry give lectures on topics from the fields of innovation, prevention, infrastructure, and stories/best practices from practice in the form of a Science Café. The lecture duration is limited to a maximum of 15 minutes, followed by a brief Q&A session. The topics are to be viewed from different perspectives. Effect/Goal: Introduce participants to the topics, provide food for thought/impulses for "World Café" and "Ask Me Anything."
World Café – This format offers the opportunity to engage people in authentic conversations about meaningful questions and make the collective knowledge of groups of various sizes accessible to individuals. The World Café is a discussion method especially suitable for larger groups. Participants sit at tables equipped with writable paper tablecloths and pens.
Effect/Goal: Stimulate creativity and exchange among participants, encourage intensive engagement with a question, generate new ideas, insights, and suggestions for improvement.
Ask Me Anything – 2-3 experts will answer questions from visitors, exhibitors, and anyone interested for 20 minutes each.
Effect/Goal: Open questions to experts, participants can ask unrestricted questions about products or specific issues.
New and communicative – Meet the Expert
This format focuses on the exhibiting companies and experts who are open to discussion. Submitted topics can be booked by visitors, and an intensive exchange takes place in a cozy area. There will be two different meeting areas, which can be chosen according to need.
Meet the Expert – face to face
The expert meets visitors in one-on-one conversations in a separate room where discussions can be held in peace. The visitor determines the topic and submits it in advance. The expert offers 4 slots of 15 minutes each, which visitors can register for. If more discussion time is needed, the expert allows the visitor to continue the conversation at another time, e.g., at the booth.
Meet the Expert – open discussion
The expert presents a topic, which is invited as part of the program. The expert is accompanied by up to 3 co-experts who lead the discussion together. The topic is introduced in 5 to 10 minutes and then discussed. Visitors do not need to register for this. The number of participants in the discussion is unlimited. The total duration is set to 60 minutes. If the "big" discussion ends earlier, small groups can retreat and continue the discussion.
