B Medical Systems inaugurates new factory
B Medical Systems officially inaugurated its new factory expansion in the presence of the Luxembourg Ministers for Health and Economy
B Medical Systems (BMS), a globally leading provider of solutions for the cold chain of vaccines and an established manufacturer and distributor of blood management and medical cooling solutions, officially inaugurated its new plant expansion on October 1, 2021. Present at the event were, among others, Luxembourg's Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, and Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot.
The new plant expansion is located next to the existing production site in Hosingen, Luxembourg. The first groundbreaking took place on January 28, 2021. The new plant expansion, covering approximately 4,500 m2, was built within six months. The expansion project was supported by various Luxembourg construction and engineering firms and is expected to create about 150 additional jobs.
BMS produces ultra-low temperature devices, vaccine refrigerators, freezers, transport boxes, and many other products for the storage and transport of vaccines and other temperature-sensitive samples. The global demand for COVID-19 vaccines has led to an unprecedented need for solutions in the vaccine cold chain. To meet this demand, BMS decided to expand its manufacturing facilities.
The plant expansion is carried out in several phases and involved an investment of 15 million euros, part of which was financed by the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy as part of aid for an investment project to combat the health crisis. In the first two phases of the project, new production halls were built, and existing spaces optimized. BMS expects to double its production capacity for products related to the vaccine cold chain. The capacity for ultra-low temperature devices is expected to increase fivefold. In July 2021, the new production hall was completed, including assembly lines, end-of-line testing, and packaging areas. Now, the third phase of expansion is underway, expected to be completed by the end of November 2021. This includes the construction of a new warehouse and offices.
The inauguration ceremony began with a corporate presentation by Luc Provost, CEO of B Medical Systems, followed by speeches from the two ministers. Subsequently, the ribbon was officially cut to inaugurate the new production halls.
As part of the event, BMS also showcased the refrigerated vaccine transport vehicle (Refrigerated Vaccine Transport Vehicle, RVTV), developed jointly with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC). It is the first refrigerated vehicle in the world to receive prequalification for performance, quality, and safety from the World Health Organization (WHO PQS). It is ideally suited for the reliable transport of vaccines or other samples within a temperature range of 2-8 °C, even in the most remote corners of the world.
“Today is an important milestone for us,” says Luc Provost, CEO of B Medical Systems, at the inauguration. “The expansion of our production capacity reflects our strong commitment to providing reliable solutions for the medical cold chain with the shortest lead times. Our special thanks go to the Luxembourg government, especially the Ministry of the Economy and the municipality of Hosingen, for their continuous support and assistance. Our goal is to make Luxembourg a leading global hub in the field of end-to-end medical cold chain solutions. This facility brings us one step closer to realizing that dream.”
With B Medical Systems' ultra-low temperature devices, vaccine refrigerators and freezers, laboratory refrigerators and freezers, and transport boxes, users can store and transport COVID-19 vaccines across a range of temperatures from -80 °C to 8 °C. BMS has already delivered more than 70,000 units for cold chain applications in over 140 countries for their COVID-19 vaccination programs. B Medical Systems is also the exclusive supplier of solutions for the Luxembourg cold chain for COVID-19 vaccines.
B Medical Systems also manufactures blood management solutions such as blood bank refrigerators, plasma freezing devices, plasma shock freezers, etc., used in the clinical sector and the blood and transfusion segment worldwide. The company has over 40 years of experience in providing reliable cold chain solutions and collaborates with humanitarian organizations such as UNICEF and the Red Cross, health ministries, hospitals, research institutes, and pharmaceutical companies internationally. The company also has regional offices in the United States and India.
