Behind the global vaccination campaigns against Corona lies a gigantic supply chain. To ensure the crucial small injection, the Lengerich-based film and packaging manufacturer Bischof + Klein also contributes: B+K CleanFlex® cleanroom packaging and containment solutions from Lengerich are indispensable in the production and transportation of vaccines.

Bischof + Klein was proactive early on. When the first lockdown was announced on March 13, 2020, Bischof + Klein had already entered into intensive discussions with its customers about the supply chain for vaccines. At that time, approval for a vaccine was still a distant prospect. However, it was foreseeable that an adequate supply of the supply chain for a liquid vaccine would be necessary.

From the appropriate syringes with all their components (glass bodies, needles, needle safety caps, and rubber stoppers) to their packaging in injection molding shells (wrapped with sterilizable bags) to raw materials (e.g., glass tubes): B+K supplies flexible packaging everywhere, mostly from the high-purity manufacturing at the Lengerich site. "We significantly expanded our capacities in these critical segments in 2020," reports Mike Bessmann, Operations Manager for cleanroom manufacturing for B+K CleanFlex®.

The two most widely used vaccines from Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna are based on mRNA technology. Both are attributed high efficiency. However, both are particularly fragile. All external influences must be minimized. The pandemic is thus driving the conversion of manufacturing processes to closed systems and increasing demand for flexible components from B+K CleanFlex® manufacturing. "B+K has built an excellent reputation in this specialized area over the past years. The market trusts us. We will now fulfill our customers' trust!" explains Benjamin Kepp, Sales Manager for B+K CleanFlex® cleanroom packaging.
