B. Braun Medical: Extension building in Escholzmatt opened

The B. Braun Medical AG officially opened the expansion of its production site in Escholzmatt, Switzerland, on September 16, 2016. In the modern manufacturing facility, which was expanded from 13,000 sqm to 26,000 sqm at a cost of CHF 32 million, around 250 employees produce infusion products for the national and international markets, including highly specialized plastic disposable items.

Besides Crissier, Sempach, and Lucerne, Escholzmatt is one of the four locations of B. Braun Medical AG. The Escholzmatt site has been producing for 43 years. The plant has been repeatedly modernized, making it one of the most advanced production facilities within the corporate group today. As the current product portfolio continues to grow and the development pipeline is full, the extensive expansion project was launched in March 2015. The investment included the construction of cleanrooms, technical and logistics areas for production, as well as a comprehensive new sterilization line.

On the newly created areas, highly specialized plastic parts for single-use applications in medicine are manufactured. This includes syringes for infusion pumps, reusable valve systems for infusion therapies – a product in which B. Braun claims to be a global leader both in terms of quality and quantity – and sampling ports for infusion bags, which are produced for the B. Braun plant in Crissier. A special feature of the Escholzmatt site is that everything from development to production and technical support takes place under one roof, including an in-house prototype workshop.
