Since 2012, Fraunhofer IPA has annually honored outstanding developments in purity technology with the "CLEAN!". The aim of the award is to promote pioneering applications and technologies in the industry and establish them in the market. Companies can still apply for Clean! 2016 until August 19. This year's award ceremony will take place on September 30 in Potsdam.

Purity technology is considered a key technology for many industries. Without a pure or ultra-pure manufacturing environment, it is not possible to produce many contamination-sensitive products such as microchips, flat screens, or pharmaceutical active ingredients. "Since innovations in this field not only improve manufacturing processes but also enable entirely new products, we are now awarding this prize for the fourth time," explains Dr. Udo Gommel, Head of Reinst and Microproduction at Fraunhofer IPA.

The independent, interdisciplinary expert jury this year consists of Prof. Arnold Brunner from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Dr. Lothar Gail from GMP Cleanroom Technology, Dr. Udo Gommel from Fraunhofer IPA, Dr. Gerhard Kminek from the European Space Agency, and Thomas Wollstein from VDI. The selection criteria are innovation leap, sustainability, enabling technologies, and industrial feasibility. The Clean! 2016 award will be presented during the 8th Annual Conference of the VDI Society Building and Building Technology (VDI-GBG) on September 30 in Potsdam.
