At the Stuttgart Biointelligence Congress 2024 in Stuttgart City Hall, the Wittenstein Biointelligence Award will be awarded for the first time on October 22nd. Outstanding innovations from the fields of biotechnology and information technology will be recognized. The application phase ends on June 30, 2024.

It is still possible to apply for the Wittenstein Biointelligence Award until June 30, 2024. The award honors innovative approaches at the intersection of life sciences, engineering, and information technology. Both individuals and companies are encouraged to participate, especially those whose interdisciplinary approaches demonstrate effective integration of information technology, production engineering, and biotechnology. The prize is endowed with 20,000 euros for companies and 5,000 euros for individuals and is funded by the Wittenstein Foundation. "The Wittenstein Foundation is committed here based on the conviction that biointelligent systems have the potential to solve previously existing impossibilities and conflicts of objectives," says Dr. Manfred Wittenstein, founder and chairman of the board. The five-member jury consists of: Dr.-Ing. Benedikt Hofmann, Chief Generating Officer of WITTENSTEIN SE, Prof. Dr. Barbara Lieder, Head of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Hohenheim, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Bauernhansl, Head of the Institute for Industrial Manufacturing and Factory Operation (IFF) at the University of Stuttgart and Fraunhofer IPA, Adrian Thoma, Managing Director of the startup engine, and Olaf Koch, partner at Zintinus GmbH.

In addition to the degree of innovation and industrial feasibility, sustainability will play an important role in the jury's decision. The submitted solutions should have a clear impact on the sustainability of the production process, whether through reducing the carbon footprint, promoting renewable energy, reducing waste, or improving ecological balance. "In a time when more and more innovative solutions are needed for complex challenges, we are paving the way for a new solution space," says Robert Miehe, head of the Center for Biointelligent Production at Fraunhofer IPA.
