An energy chain for maximum dynamics with particularly quiet operation

For applications where an extremely quiet operation of the energy chain, high dynamics, or particularly low wear is required, the motion plastics specialist igus has developed the E6.1 series of energy chains. These chains are now available in new dimensions with larger inner heights up to 62 millimeters.

For areas of use where especially low-wear energy chains are required, such as in cleanrooms in semiconductor manufacturing, igus has developed the e-chains of the E6.1 series. As with the predecessor series E6, elastic polymer spring elements in the side elements serve as connectors instead of a bolt/hole connection, ensuring a damped and very quiet chain operation. The particularly small pitch and contour of the chain links ensure that the polygon effect is minimized and the chain rolls very smoothly. Due to a narrower design, approximately 30 percent material can be saved compared to the E6 while maintaining the same inner dimensions. "Another advantage of this construction principle is a very quiet and additionally extremely vibration-free operation at just 32 dB(A)," explains Harald Nehring, authorized officer for e-chain systems at igus. "As a result, energy chains of the E6.1 series are suitable not only for cleanroom applications but also very well for use in stage technology or television studios." Chains of the E6.1 series can also be used in applications with travel speeds of up to 20 m/s. Immediately, chains are available in four different dimensions with inner heights ranging from 29 millimeters to 62 millimeters. An even larger version of the E6.1 with 80 millimeters inner height will follow in spring 2017.

Easy accessibility for quick assembly

In all sizes of the E6.1, the opening ridges in the inner and outer radius can be removed, allowing for quick filling at all times. This is possible even if the chain is already installed in the machine and, for example, additional cables or hoses need to be pulled in. Almost all opening ridges also feature a grid pattern, enabling precise placement of partitioning ridges. For the size with 29 millimeters inner height, users also have the option to order the chain with pivoting opening ridges. This reduces the number of handling steps and shortens assembly times. The very smooth and kink-free inner space ensures a very long service life for guided cables and hoses.
