250 kg on top and still flexible: Height-adjustable table series with high load capacity facilitate analytical procedures in the laboratory
In-house development implements individual customer requests and custom-made products
Analytical devices are often large and heavy in the laboratory. Therefore, they cannot simply be placed on standard tables – specially designed, particularly robust workbenches are required as a foundation. In addition to stability, a certain degree of flexibility is also necessary, as institute staff operate the machines at different heights due to their body sizes and sometimes need to use them in various laboratory rooms for different work steps. Sonation GmbH has been equipping laboratories worldwide with functional tables meeting high quality standards for 20 years, which fulfill such specific requirements: The laboratory tables of the HPLC series have a load capacity of 250 kg, stepless height adjustability, and lockable casters. For even higher loads and additional requirements such as mass spectrometers with vacuum pumps, the heavy-duty tables of the QE series are suitable, which can optionally be equipped with an integrated, soundproofed pump cabinet.
"The procedures of laboratory analytics are as numerous as the devices used for them," says Christof Völkle, Managing Director of Sonation GmbH. "However, all of them usually involve enormous weight and should therefore be placed on specially designed heavy-duty tables for safety reasons." However, these are generally unwieldy and difficult to move, which can hinder workflows in the lab. Because a specific analysis often requires the use of multiple devices, laboratory staff frequently need to move between rooms. Fixed installation of equipment at a certain height can also lead to ergonomically unfavorable movements and posture problems, especially when working with different body sizes. "Additional requirements, such as soundproofing for vacuum pumps, should ideally be integrated directly into the laboratory table for optimal workflow," adds Völkle.
Flexible table series enable optimal workflows in daily laboratory operations
Against this background, Sonation has developed various table series that combine flexibility and stability components. "The best example is our HPLC laboratory table series," explains Völkle. "On a durable and easy-to-clean TRESPA® TOPLAB® PLUS tabletop measuring up to 120 x 100 cm, equipment weighing up to 250 kg can be accommodated." Despite the high load capacity, the setup is electrically steplessly height-adjustable and can also be moved to four pre-saved heights at the push of a button. This improves workflow because the heights of the tables do not need to be adjusted manually each time. For the necessary mobility, ball-bearing caster wheels with locks are used. "Especially for laboratory devices used by multiple people and frequently moved between institute rooms, the HPLC tables are ideal," summarizes Völkle. "But we also have suitable equipment for even larger setups."
The LGT-QE series features a solid steel frame with optional heavy-duty caster wheels or flat feet, supporting weights of up to 500 kg. Large systems, such as mass spectrometers including associated vacuum pumps and data processors, can be quickly and securely installed thanks to practical modifications, such as conduits for cable and vacuum lines. Depending on the need, the tables can also be equipped with soundproofing for one or two vacuum pumps.
Independent production from development to assembly
"Although we equip laboratories worldwide, we source the parts needed for our products as regionally as possible," reports Völkle. "Because in addition to functionality, we place great importance on our very high quality standards." The production itself, from development to assembly, is not outsourced but carried out entirely in-house. This allows Sonation to respond flexibly to customer requests. "Currently, we have already realized over 500 custom solutions," explains Völkle. "Looking back, we have been able to find tailored, optimal solutions for every customer inquiry with diverse requirements."
