2,700 guests at the ENGEL Symposium 2012
A full house experienced the ENGEL Symposium 2012 in the truest sense of the word. 2,700 guests from 35 countries – more than ever before – were convinced on June 13 and 14, 2012, of ENGEL AUSTRIA's high system solution competence and innovative strength.
With 18 exhibits from the Business Units Automotive, Technical Moulding, Teletronics, Packaging, and Medical, ENGEL set another record with its 2012 symposium: the density of innovations was even higher than at previous events. For the first time, ENGEL showcased in its large machine factory in St. Valentin, for example, the Dolphin process for manufacturing high-quality automotive interior parts with a soft-touch surface, whose first series application only started in autumn of the previous year. The impressive size of the ENGEL duo 1500 combi M injection molding machine and its high degree of automation and process integration alone were noteworthy.
Equally impressive were, among other things, the production of ultra-thin-walled and highly decorated laptop covers in a cleanroom, the high degree of integration of a manufacturing cell for producing lamp housings including a die insert on the smallest footprint, and the two-meter-high tool for manufacturing press forks for floor mops in the ENGEL gasmelt process, which thanks to the arm-free technology fits on a relatively small ENGEL victory injection molding machine with only 500 tons of clamping force.
The fact that the exhibits were visible right next to ongoing production this time allowed visitors to gain simultaneous insights into the manufacturing of ENGEL large machines.
World premieres and live development
Two machine types celebrated their world premiere during the symposium: the electrified version of the ENGEL large machine, ENGEL e-duo, and the new fully electric injection molding machine ENGEL e-mac for the highest precision requirements in technical injection molding. Additionally, there was "development live": with the production of brake pedals using innovative in-situ polymerization technology on a prototype machine, ENGEL offered visitors a glimpse into the future of automotive lightweight construction.
The focus of the presentations on the two symposium mornings at the Design Center in Linz was on improvement potentials along the injection molding process chain from plasticizing through mixing to cooling, new possibilities of process monitoring, the energy efficiency of innovative drive solutions, and lightweight construction technologies. Among others, the ENGEL development managers Georg Steinbichler and Gerhard Dimmler, as well as Peter Egger, head of ENGEL's new technology center for lightweight composites in St. Valentin, gave talks. Together with partners, fiber-reinforced technologies are being further developed more intensively than ever before.
Partner exhibition emphasizes high system solution standards
40 system partners from ENGEL in the areas of raw materials, toolmaking, tempering technology, automation, granulate handling, quality assurance, and cleanroom technology displayed their products and solutions around the exhibits, underscoring the high system solution competence that ENGEL demonstrates not only during its triennial symposium but also daily in demanding customer projects together with its partners.
