Wolfgang Hassa
Who would have thought that studying aircraft construction at FH Aachen would someday lead to a patent in the cleanroom industry? Wolfgang Hassa certainly didn't, when in 1990, after completing his studies, he spent several years as a professional hot air balloon pilot flying across Germany.
After his adventurous years, he worked for 10 years at GEFA-FLUG mbH in Aachen as Production Manager in the balloon and airship construction division. From this time, he gained extensive knowledge about fabrics, fabric stresses in large volumes, and various textile processing techniques. The necessary handling of standards and documentation in aviation also made up a large part of his work.
After completing a postgraduate degree as an industrial engineer, he gained experience as a management consultant in factory planning and then returned to GEFA Flug first as a authorized signatory and later as managing director.
In 2015, he became self-employed with his company Airworxx, which specialized in inflatable textile 3D bodies for events, art, and trade fair construction. Through Airworxx, the first innovative cleanroom made of fabric was built in 2016 – the sphairlab.
In 2018, together with Cleansman Jens Hutzenlaub, the sphairlab GmbH was founded, including the development of the patent on the construction principle of the sphairlab.
In 2021, he independently founded Reinraum-Mieten, a company specializing in the rental of fabric cleanrooms in a modular system.
What did you want to become as a child?
Pilot – flying was always my dream
What was your first car?
A Renault R5 in bright yellow. Packed with 5 guys over 1.90m tall on the way to a volleyball game. That’s when the word stress test makes sense.
What can you look forward to?
Nature – simply sitting quietly and observing.
Which achievement are you particularly proud of?
My second degree while working full-time – that was quite a challenge.
Which technical achievement do you admire the most?
The construction of old cathedrals. Can you really build great things without a PC, just with brain and hands?
Apparently yes.
Who would you like to swap lives with for a month?
Jeff Bezos – I would spend his entire billions wisely.
He can keep his last million; it's enough for a good life.
In which country would you like to have a second residence?
I love the Lower Rhine and don't need a second apartment.
Who would you like to have met?
Hannibal, the Carthaginian general, to march with him over the Alps.
To think and dare things that others wouldn't even dare to think.
