Norbert Gürke
Born in 1962 in Essen, Norbert Gürke completed his schooling in Markoberdorf in the Allgäu region. After an apprenticeship as a furniture carpenter, he took a somewhat longer break and worked as a ski and sailing instructor. Subsequently, he spent two years with the mountain troops in Mittenwald. Among other things, he trained the ski troop, a military unit, as a co-trainer, which is the predecessor of today's biathlon sport. He describes this time as having significantly shaped him in terms of endurance and constant self-motivation: "Great things never came from comfort zones." After his military service, he began his career as a technical advisor in the production capacity of medium-sized carpentry businesses. At the same time, he studied marketing through the second educational pathway at the vocational technical academy in Munich. After 12 years in the wood processing industry, he switched to the service sector. Gürke encountered the cleanroom sector through his sales engagement in infrastructural building services within the healthcare industry.
Through his personal commitment, passion, and fascination for cleanrooms, he has developed fundamental knowledge in cleanroom cleaning over the years. Since January 2016, he has been heading the cleanroom cleaning department at the nationwide building service provider Piepenbrock. He was not only instrumental in establishing the new department but also involved in the development and construction of an innovative cleanroom training center. The training center is attached to the company headquarters in Osnabrück and enables employees as well as external interested parties to receive specialized and practical training under nearly real conditions. Norbert Gürke complements his portfolio with lectures at the Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen to prepare potential future professionals for the challenges of the industry.
What did you want to become as a child?
Definitely not a train driver, firefighter, or police officer.
What was your first car?
A Beetle 1303S, 55HP, light blue metallic with a panoramic window. I bought the car for 1,200 Deutsche Marks and was proud as a peacock.
What do you look forward to?
When plans – both private and professional – run smoothly and succeed.
Which achievement are you particularly proud of?
My family and our children.
Which technical achievement do you admire the most?
The development of navigation systems – on water and on land.
Who would you like to swap places with for a month?
No one.
In which country would you like to have a second residence?
In Scandinavia, at a fjord with a boat dock.
Who would you like to meet?
Jacques-Yves Cousteau, to have a conversation with him about the sea and the underwater world.
Which book would you currently recommend?
I must admit that I have switched from reading to audiobooks – it's easier while driving. Currently, I am listening to the "Kangaroo Chronicles" by Marc-Uwe Kling again and again. The four books are full of humor and worth reading!
What is your favorite food?
At the moment, I am a fan of good cheese with Shüttelbrot (a type of bread).
What is your favorite music?
The 1980s – especially the "Neue Deutsche Welle".
What was the best advice you ever received?
If someone really has something to say, they first listen.
Do you have a motto?
Great things never came from comfort zones.
