Dr. Gernod Dittel
Prof. Gernod Dittel, born in 1957, is a trained mechanical engineer. After studying general mechanical engineering, he initially worked as a design manager and project manager in industry before founding the engineering firm DITTEL Cleanroom Engineering, now DITTEL Engineering, in Kochel am See/Ried in Upper Bavaria in 1993.
Dittel teaches the subject "Cleanroom Technology" at Carinthia University Villach in Austria as well as at the Chair for "New Technologies" at Xi'an Jiaotong Technical University in China.
Dittel is Deputy Chairman of the DRRI (German Cleanroom Institute) and Deputy Chair of the Spiegelausschuss (Mirror Committee) at DIN. Furthermore, Dittel is chairman and member of various national and international standards committees. These include DIN, VDI, VDMA, IEST, CCCS, ISO, and CEN.
What did you want to be as a child?
A carpenter, because working with wood has fascinated me to this day.
What was your first car?
An Opel Kadett; year 1970
What can you look forward to?
To my grandson's smile and when the family is doing well.
What achievements are you particularly proud of?
Everything I have achieved together with my wife and never lost my social responsibility and attitude in the process.
Which technical achievements do you admire the most?
Everything that helps humanity to live and preserve life as such.
Who would you like to swap places with for a month?
No one in this world, because every person has their small and big problems.
In which country would you like to have a second residence?
The world is undoubtedly beautiful, and I have seen a lot of it, but the Bavarian Oberland where I am at home is incomparable to anything in this world.

Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay

What is your favorite food?
Pancakes and rice pudding made by my wife.
What is your favorite music?
Authentic Alpine folk music, as I myself play the zither and Styrian harmonica. Classical, rock, and pop also belong to life.
What was the best advice you ever received?
My grandfather told me as a young boy: If you think you're at the goal, then you haven't even taken the first step.
Do you have a motto?
The saying from the ode written around 23 BC; To Leukonoë by the Roman poet Horace: “CARPE DIEM”
