Eric Stuiver
Eric Stuiver was born 53 years ago in Rotterdam. He has been married to Debora van Nimwegen since 1983 and is the father of two sons (15/17). Mr. Stuiver now has over 30 years of experience in the planning, execution, and operation of highly integrated factories for cleanroom applications.
After completing his chemistry studies at Rotterdam High School, he gained initial experience with cleanrooms in the mid-1980s at Philips Semiconductors during one of the first megabit projects on European soil. Initially responsible for the development and implementation of a cleanroom monitoring program, he later led yield improvement programs for the first Philips submicron chips.
In 1991, he moved to the international semiconductor factory planning firm Crystal Group. Here, he was the head of the Industrial Engineering Group and planned numerous semiconductor factories in Taiwan, Singapore, China, and the Netherlands. After Crystal was acquired by Bovis Lend Lease in 2001, he transferred to Deerns, a Dutch planning and consulting firm for building technology. Here, he fundamentally built up and expanded the cleanroom and clean environment technology. In addition to his experience in micro- and nanotechnology, he worked in the fields of biotech, containment technology, and photovoltaic manufacturing. The strong internationalization efforts of Deerns led two years ago to the founding of the “International Clean Technology Practice Group,” which he leads as director. He manages a team of international experts with many years of experience across all application fields of cleanroom technology throughout the entire lifecycle of cleanrooms.
What did you want to be as a child?
Archaeologist.
What was your first car?
Ford Fiesta 1300 Sport.
What can you look forward to?
Accompanying my children's growth. Coaching the development of young colleagues into cleanroom experts. All activities in and with nature.
Which achievement are you particularly proud of?
Planning a multi-level semiconductor production facility for TSMC in Taiwan. By constructing two complete cleanroom floors stacked on top of each other, we were able to meet TSMC's manufacturing requirements.
Which technical achievement do you admire most?
The development and conceptualization of the NanoLab for the MESA+ Research Institute at the University of Twente. Despite enormous budget constraints, the project team was able to realize all technical challenges at the limits of physics in the nanoworld.
Who would you like to swap lives with for a month?
I am happy with who I am and with whom I can share my life.
In which country would you like to have a second residence?
Spain, because of the people, nature, and food.
Who would you like to have met?
My father, who passed away too early.
Which book would you currently recommend?
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
What is your favorite food?
Zarzuela.
What is your favorite music?
The Eagles, Pink Floyd.
