Dirk Steil
Dirk Steil, born in 1966, studied industrial engineering in Saarbrücken. Afterwards, he was drawn to abroad and completed a trinational program in "International Management," which also took him to France and England.
He gained his first professional experience in advertising and marketing at an international plant engineering company. Gradually, he took on sales roles and eventually managed sales as an Area Sales Manager, initially for the USA and Canada, then for Asia and Australia.
After several more years in international sales at Mannesmann, he returned to Saarland and began his career at the BECKER Group. Dirk Steil took over the management of BECKER Cleanroom Technology GmbH in 2002.
With great enthusiasm for the exciting and diverse field of cleanroom technology, he led the company to become one of the renowned providers of turnkey cleanrooms in Germany. Its international orientation allowed the company to grow quickly beyond German borders: in addition to cleanroom projects in other European countries and the United Arab Emirates, there has been a dedicated branch in Pune, India, since 2005. The Becker Group now employs over 350 people worldwide.
Dirk Steil is a co-founder of the "CleanRoomNet" cleanroom network and has been organizing the "Cleanroom Forum Saar" for the past three years. He is an active member of VDI and SRRT.
What did you want to become as a child?
My dream was to become a trucker in the USA; I am still fascinated by the big trucks today.
What was your first car?
Initially a Ford Fiesta, which I had to share with my siblings. My first own car was a Peugeot 104.
What do you look forward to?
As a father of two children, I look forward to the laughter of my boys.
What achievement are you particularly proud of?
Building our Indian subsidiary from scratch, without external help, relying only on intuition, perseverance, and the patience of my family, who often had to do without me at home.
Which technical achievement do you admire most?
Every time I fly, I am amazed again at how a device weighing tons can lift off into the air.
Who would you like to swap lives with for a month?
I consider myself a content person, so why swap?
In which country would you like to have a second residence?
We Saarlanders only have one home: Saarland. Instead of having a second residence, I prefer to constantly discover new places and meet new people; it brings more variety.
Who would you like to meet?
It's hard to say; I have met so many people, and I can learn something from everyone.
Which book would you recommend right now?
Currently, I am reading "Games of the Managers" by A.W. Scheer, which offers interesting new insights.
What is your favorite food?
I love Italian cuisine, especially lasagna and baked pasta dishes.
What is your favorite music?
Since I was 10 years old, I have played the trumpet, so I like anything related to brass, e.g., a good, swinging big band sound.
What was the best advice you ever received?
From my Latin teacher in the graduation speech about serenity: "In calmness lies strength," but sometimes it's hard to remember that.
Do you have a motto?
Yes, quite clearly: "Treat others as you want to be treated," and our world would look very different...
