Christoph Mützel
After graduating from high school in Neu-Ulm and serving in the Bundeswehr, Christoph Mützel studied Business Administration supported by a scholarship at the Scientific University for Business Management (WHU) in Koblenz, ESSEC in Paris, and the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration in Bangkok, graduating in 2000 with a Diplom-Kaufmann degree.
After two years of external teaching, he took over the management of Friedrich Sailer GmbH in 2002, which he now runs successfully as a managing partner in the third family generation. Aiming to continuously develop the company, he introduced innovative production techniques such as laser welding at Friedrich Sailer GmbH and led the development of new products, especially for use in cleanroom and pharmaceutical industries. He is known as an expert in Hygienic Design in stainless steel processing.
Numerous awards such as the Red Dot Design Award 2010, nomination for the German Design Award 2011, the Steel Innovation Award 2012, and the Cleanzone Award 2019 recognize the innovative strength of Christoph Mützel and his team. The company's quality standards are well known and appreciated beyond the borders of Europe.
What did you want to become as a child?
Chef – my grandfather on my father's side was a well-known pastry chef in Ulm.
What was your first car?
A yellow Triumph Spitfire. For longer distances, it was advantageous to wear hearing protection.
What do you look forward to?
A family breakfast on the weekend with plenty of time or a hike in the Bregenzerwald.
What achievement are you particularly proud of?
Actually fulfilling my grandfather's last wish to carry on his company within the family and maintaining a fulfilling family life despite work and independence.
Which technical achievement do you admire the most?
Laser technology with its constantly new application possibilities.
Who would you like to swap places with for a month?
With myself in three years to see how we have actually implemented our current ideas.
In which country would you like to have a second residence?
The Bregenzerwald continually attracts me with its craftsmanship quality and innovative strength.
Who would you like to meet?
A meeting with New Zealand's current Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern would be exciting. I find her pragmatic and determined manner impressive.
Which book would you recommend currently?
Make Your Bed by Admiral William H. McRaven.
What is your favorite food?
Everything we cook and eat together as a family.
What is your favorite music?
Always the one that best fits the mood at the moment.
What was the best advice you ever received?
Not every decision has to be rationally justified. Sometimes, the right decision is the one made out of conviction.
Do you have a motto?
It's hard to say what is impossible, because yesterday's dream is today's hope and tomorrow's reality. (Robert Goddard)
