Achim Altmann

Achim Altmann was born on 03.03.1977 in Munich. Growing up in Upper Bavaria, he followed his father's call and, after completing his combined training as an outside sales clerk / trade specialist, started in 1997 at the company ALTMANN GmbH, founded by his father and brother Robert Altmann.

There he learned the crane trade from scratch, i.e., from maintenance to construction, from assembly to commissioning. Except for his basic military service, he has been active in the family business ever since. In 2006, Achim Altmann successfully completed his distance learning program as a business engineer and in 2008 took over management.

Since 2000, he has been working closely with his brother on the topic of cleanroom cranes. With now 21 years of experience in this field, they have been able to implement the world's largest cleanroom cranes (30 tons capacity, 30 m span) as well as numerous innovative solutions such as semi- and fully-automatic cranes with pendulum damping in the cleanroom.

If he's not on a crane, Achim Altmann spends his free time with his wife and their three children.

 

What did you want to become as a child?
Mechanic

What was your first car?
An old Ford Fiesta without any frills.

What do you look forward to?
When children laugh.

Which achievement are you particularly proud of?
Successfully carrying on my father's life's work with my brother and setting standards in cleanroom crane technology.

Which technical achievement do you admire the most?
The discovery of the possibilities of electric power in its full range.
I also find all the pioneers remarkable, who believed in their idea alone and against all resistance from outside, until they proved all doubters wrong, such as Jacob Mayer, Carl Benz, Rudolf Diesel, Otto Lilienthal, etc.

Who would you like to swap places with for a month?
No one – I feel so comfortable in my own skin that I have no idea which other role I should take on.

In which country would you like to have a second residence?
In Scotland

Who would you like to meet?
My grandfather, who was killed in the war.

Which book would you currently recommend?
Blackout, Tomorrow is Too Late by Marc Elsberg. The book vividly shows how thin the thread is on which our prosperity hangs.

What is your favorite food?
Beef roulade with noodles, peas, and mashed potatoes

What is your favorite music?
I don't have a favorite genre; it doesn't matter if I like the song:
With George Michael, Mick Hucknall, and John Legend, I can really listen to everything.

What was the best advice you ever received?
Create new memories tomorrow.

Do you have a motto?
"The troop is led from the front, not from the rear."
