With the Decarbonization Day, Endress+Hauser has launched an event format aimed at supporting responsible parties in the process industry to make production processes more sustainable. The focus is on the question of how modern measurement and analysis technologies can facilitate the transition to a climate-neutral future. The event will take place on May 13 and 14, 2025, on the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein in Essen.

As a partner for the process industry, Endress+Hauser presents onsite solutions that enable precise capture, evaluation, and targeted reduction of CO₂ emissions — and at the same time brings together experts from business and technology. "Decarbonization is not a single solution — it is a systemic change that can only succeed in collaboration with the industry," says Frederik Effenberger, Industry Manager Decarbonization at Endress+Hauser Germany. "With our event, we create a place for exchange where we pool expertise and learn from each other."

The historic site of the former Zollverein coal mine, once a symbol of fossil energy extraction, provides the framework to engage with the industrial past and look towards the future of production. The program focuses on concrete technological solutions for the practical implementation of decarbonization — such as the role that precise measurement technology plays in increasing transparency and control of emissions, the application of CCUS technologies (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) for CO₂ reduction, or how a modern measurement technology portfolio supports the production, storage, and use of green hydrogen. Additionally, the question of how CO₂ monitoring meets the requirements of DEHSt is in focus.

Dr. Marcel Zillgitt, Director Sales and Process Carbon Capture Solutions at GEA Group, discusses both measurement requirements and solutions for carbon capture in industries that are difficult to decarbonize. "In many industries such as cement, steel, or chemicals, technologies like CCUS are crucial for advancing decarbonization. Measurement technology plays a central role because it helps monitor processes precisely and provides the necessary data for effective CO₂ reduction. Only through accurate measurements can we gain the transparency and control needed to achieve climate neutrality," says Zillgitt.
